Now at least 16 of the 20 largest U.S. public school districts are offering online therapy sessions to reach millions of students, according to an analysis by The Associated Press.

Students in the Star City are able to access free mental health resources through Roanoke City Public Schools after a new initiative started November 6. Leaders are hoping the move will increase accessibility and reduce the mental health stigma.

The district logged more than 500 fights on school campuses and buses last school year. The district told the I-TEAM they are taking several steps to keep schools safe, including providing mental telehealth services offered through their partnership with Hazel Health.

Dozens of Alexandria, Virginia, students have been referred to a virtual telemental health service in the first few weeks the program has been in place, officials said at a school board meeting last week.

Reducing the stigma of seeking therapy and empowering young people with the mental health resources they need, is the goal behind a program launched this school year at Renton Public Schools to provide one-on-one, virtual therapy for students.

San Antonio ISD (SAISD) announced a new partnership with the nation’s leading school-based telehealth provider, Hazel Health, and Superior HealthPlan, a Texas-based managed care organization and subsidiary of Centene Corporation, to offer comprehensive health care services at three schools.

Starting this week in Alexandria, more than 15,000 students K-12 will have another way to access life-saving mental health services.
