Nurse: When a student doesn’t feel well at school, they’re sent to me, the school nurse. But sometimes, having a same-day doctor visit really helps. First, I check their temperature and heart rate. Then, a Hazel doctor joins us on a video call for about 15 minutes.
I introduce the student to the doctor and assist with things like giving over-the-counter medicine. Sometimes, the doctor will reach out to the student's guardian by phone. Afterward, most students return to class feeling better, instead of needing a parent to take them to urgent care.
Counselor: As a school counselor, I help students struggling academically or emotionally. When I see a student who would benefit from talking to a therapist about what’s bothering them, I get them an appointment with a Hazel therapist. If longer-term counseling is needed, a Hazel Family Resource Manager connects the family with local services.
