Hazel celebrates school nurses at NASN’s 51st Annual Conference

Raquel Antunez, Vice President of Education Markets

This summer, Hazel partnered with the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) to send ten school nurses from across the country to NASN’s 51st Annual Conference. The group met at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Denver, Colorado for four days packed with keynote speakers, workshops, demonstrations and, most importantly, a celebration of everything school nurses do to keep families happy and healthy.

In honor of School Nurse Day on May 8, 2019, we honored ten school nurses spanning from San Francisco to New Jersey with a complimentary conference registration to recognize all of the hard work they do in schools every day. With five core conference themes (standards of practice, care coordination, quality improvement, leadership, and community/public health), we heard from nurses, journalists, paramedics, and more to gain valuable insights into everything from mental health advocacy to bridging health and education policies.

In addition to exploring Denver’s invigorating metropolis, filled with historical landmarks, museums, restaurants, and more, we spent the evenings with fellow affiliate members at awards celebrations, rallies, and even a School Health/NASN Dance Party. It was an incredibly inspiring four days celebrating the true superheroes of our schools.

Now more than ever, we must prioritize school nurse advocacy and skill building as communities face increased barriers in access to affordable healthcare. The NASN identifies five instrumental contributions a school nurse makes to the community as: attendance, academics, time saving, staff wellness, and accountability. Here at Hazel, we hope to provide tools that work hand in hand with the amazing work school health professionals do to see the next generation succeed.

As a former school principal and educator myself, I saw first hand how student health plays a crucial role in academic success. That’s why we work with school nurses — to collaborate and help manage workflow in order to empower them by expanding the level of care they provide to students. By helping on the ground at a hyperlocal level, we hope to contribute to the high quality standard of care in order to elevate entire communities.

We look forward to seeing you at NASN 2020!

Here’s what some of our school nurse honorees had to say:

“Thank you so much for the wonderful sponsorship!  It was such an unexpected surprise to get the conference fee covered…I really appreciate it, especially since I came to present a poster and didn’t know how I would pay for it.”

“I am very grateful and humbled by your generous donation.  I truly appreciate your kindness.”

“Thank you for sponsoring us to come to NASN.  It is an incredible conference and my work was only able to send me this year.  With your sponsorship, I was able to use my work reimbursement for next year and attend this year!”
